Purpose

Educate participants on the Prison Rape Elimination Act so they can demonstrate a competent and professional approach when applying the Prison & Jail Standards as outlined by the Department of Justice.

Participants will:

  • Review the PREA directives
    • Zero tolerance of sexual abuse/sexual harassment
    • The dynamics of sexual abuse/sexual harassment in confinement
    • Inmates’ rights to be free of sexual harassment in a confinement setting & freedom from retaliation for reporting incidents
  • Define prevention, detection and reporting of incidents, as well as the proper response when notified of an incident
  • Be able to apply knowledge of LGBTI and gender non-conforming inmates and residents to achieve better communication
