This class is a Pre-Requisite for MORRA Training

Purpose

To provide practitioners, who are working with resistive, chemically dependent or criminal populations, with specific knowledge, skills and techniques to more effectively reduce offender resistance, increase offender motivation to change, and reduce individual criminal risk.

The specific areas that will be examined are:

Effective interventions with this population

Human factors related to resistance to change

Communication techniques designed to increase motivation

“Stages of Change” as it applies in corrections

Basic Communication Skills

Who should attend: This course is designed for correctional professionals with direct contact with offenders on a regular basis, particularly those with supervisory authority over offenders.

 Purpose

Educate participants on the Prison Rape Elimination Act so they can demonstrate a competent and professional approach when applying the Prison & Jail Standards as outlined by the Department of Justice.

Participants will understand:

The Department’s zero tolerance of sexual abuse/sexual harassment

How to fulfill responsibilities under the department’s sexual abuse and sexual harassment prevention, detection, reporting, and response policies and procedures

Offender’s right to be free from sexual abuse & sexual harassment

How to detect and respond to signs of threatened and actual sexual abuse

How to communicate effectively and professionally with offenders who might be lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex (LGBTI) or gender nonconforming

Who Should Attend:  Required for all Employees
